Mansoor Ali Khan is a familiar face for both Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada audience. He may not have done any recent roles in Mollywood, but his roles in movies like PonnuChami, Sathyam Sivam Sundaram etc have not been forgotten. He was arrested from his house at Choolaimedu, Chennai by Police for making a controversial statement.
His ‘violence inducing’ and controversial statement that caused the uproar was against the proposed eight lane Salem-Chennai expressway ‘green corridor’ project at an estimated cost of 10000 crores. He said if the ‘8 lane road is constructed he will kill 8 people and go to jail’ .
He said if the project takes off, it will affect the lives of the people. A lot of hills and trees will have to be destroyed for its construction. It will affect the livelihood of people. He affirmed that he will definitely take part in the protest against highway.
Even as local farmers have been stoutly opposing the expressway, Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami stoutly defended the ‘hard-won’ road project for Tamil Nadu, which he claimed involved acquiring only 41 acres of forest land. Asked about Mansoor Ali Khan’s arrest, State Fisheries minister, Mr D Jayakumar said in Chennai, “jail is the right place for those who brazenly incite violence.”
